Maria Assenza Colombiana da Palazzo is just the latest persona donned by the assassin known as “Belladonna”. Cunning and wily, Belladonna can change her entire personality as easily as putting on a mask. Decidedly self-interested, Belladonna takes an almost fetishistic joy in her work, killing with a sort of childlike glee. However, she’s clever and crafty enough to avoid capture time after time, making her hits seem like accidents. She is committed to being a non-entity, a null, existing only when her work needs doing and then disappearing into the shadows. Her reputation among the criminal underworld is astounding, but few claim to have ever met Belladonna personally, instead talking about her as a sort of wraith or spectre, a bogeyman to keep little children from misbehaving. Those who have met Belladonna are almost universally unaware of it, or else she’s the last person they ever meet. Belladonna doesn’t have a “real” name. She hasn’t since she was a child. Instead, she becomes whatever disguise best suits her current job. She becomes just another face in the crowd until it’s time for her to move. Although some assassins favour flashy displays of their own power, Belladonna is not nearly as conceited, preferring to be discreet in her movements.
